MRFA BOARD TO DISCUSS BUDGET

The Modesto Regional Fire Authority board will meet today at 1:30 p.m. in MRFA’s administrative offices, 3705 Oakdale Road. The meeting agenda includes a discussion on how the fire authority would respond to a $500,000 cut in funding from the city of Modesto in the current fiscal year, which ends June 30.

NEW PROGRAM GEARED TOWARD DROPOUTS

The Stanislaus County Office of Education launched a countywide initiative at the beginning of the 2013-14 school year focused on increasing graduation rates in Stanislaus County. Called Destination Graduation, the goal is to increase the percentage of students who graduate from local high schools.

SCOE’s new Come Back Kids charter school program is reaching out to young adults, ages 16 to 24, who dropped out of school but are now ready to work toward a high school diploma. More than 150 students have enrolled. For more information, call (209) 238-1511.

COURTHOUSE CLOSED FOR TWO HOLIDAYS

The Stanislaus County Superior Courthouse will be closed today to observe President Abraham Lincoln’s birthday. The court also will be closed Monday for Presidents Day.
