A 46-year-old Ceres man has been sentenced to eight years and one month in federal prison for receiving child pornography, the U.S. attorney’s office in Sacramento reported Monday.
Defendant Gary Edward Collins also was ordered to serve 15 years of supervised release, and he will be required to register as a sex offender. Federal prosecutors said Collins’ access to minors, computers and the Internet will be restricted.
Collins pleaded guilty Nov. 18.
As part of his plea deal, Collins admitted that from April 11, 2011 through May 12, 2012 he received at least 600 images of child pornography. The prosecutors said many of the images depicted prepubescent minors; some involved violence or sadistic or masochistic conduct or abuse.
This case was the result of an investigation by the Ceres Police Department.
