Jeanette Moore: Modesto council, grow up

February 7, 2014

As a property owner in Salida, I need to express my frustration at recent actions by the Modesto City Council. Before moving to Salida, I served on the Woodland Planning Commission for 12 years. In Salida, I served on the Salida MAC (Municipal Advisory Council) for four years.

I am appalled at the irresponsible planning by Modesto with poor traffic plans; pockets of agricultural land within city limits; industrial and business parks with no design relating to transport of goods and commuter traffic, and “pocketbook” planning – making anything happen if it will bring revenue to the city. I can’t believe the city planning staff encourages this reckless lack of good planning. But developers do have the big bucks.

I beg City Council members to consider their responsibilities to the region. Growth is inevitable, but for heaven’s sake do something with the agricultural land which you ignored for so long.
