Angels Camp woman killed in head-on collision

February 7, 2014

— A 44-year-old woman from Angels Camp died Thursday after the car she was riding in crossed into the opposite lane and hit an oncoming car, authorities said. A third car then rear-ended the second car.

The accident occurred at 8:56 p.m. on Rawhide Road near French Flat Road. According to the California Highway Patrol, Elizabeth Quinn, 60, of Angels Camp was driving a 1981 BMW north at about 40 mph when the car crossed the double-yellow line and into the path of a 1998 Dodge driven by Neil Lemmon, 60, of Salt Lake City, Utah, in the opposite direction.

Lemmon was unable to avoid the BMW and the cars collided on the left front side. David Straub, 59, of Jamestown was driving a 1998 Dodge behind Lemmon and could not stop in time to avoid rear-ending Lemmon’s car. Quinn and her passenger, whose name was not released, were taken to Sonora Regional Medical Center. The passenger died of her injuries on the way to the hospital.
