Modesto

What: TRACK CLINIC

When: Saturday, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Where: Modesto Junior College East Campus stadium track, Tully Road

Info: Modesto Junior College is holding a Learn-By-Doing Track and Field Clinic. The clinic is for high school track and field athletes and will include activities for ages 6 to 13. Registration will take place outside Men’s PE 110, next to the MJC pool. Registration is $20 per person, and the first 100 registrants will receive a T-shirt. Lunch and water will be provided. What: WINTER HIKE

When: Saturday, 9:30 a.m.

Where: American Legion Hall parking lot, 1001 S. Santa Cruz Ave.

Info: The Sierra Club will hold an easy, four-mile winter hike along the Tuolumne River; dogs and children are welcome. It’s free, with no signups necessary. For more information, call Dorothy at (209) 549-9155.

What: VENTRILOQUIST SHOW

When: Saturday, 11:30 a.m.

Where: Stanislaus County Library, 1500 I St.

Info: The Stanislaus County Library will present Frosty’s Magic Ventriloquist Show, by Tony Borders. The show will feature music, poetry, magic, ventriloquism and lots of laughs. What: WHIST CARD PARTY

When: Monday, 1 p.m.

Where: St. Stanislaus Catholic Church Hall, Seventh and K streets

Info: A whist card party will be sponsored by the Society of St. Isabel. Cost to play is $2. The event will feature prizes, refreshments and a raffle. All are welcome to attend. For more information, call Rose at (209) 529-4933.

The guest speaker will be Adria from the Greenery who will speak on the topic “Seed Starting Techniques with Focus on Edibles.” Guests are welcome. What: DELTA TULE TREKKERS MEETING

When: Monday, 6 p.m.

Where: CK Grill, 14725 S. Harlan Road

Info: Delta Tule Trekkers is holding a monthly meeting preceded by a dinner and social hour. Spring walks at the San Joaquin River National Wildlife Refuge and in Galt will be the topic of discussion. The group holds noncompetitive walks open to all ages in locations around the Central Valley and is a member of the American Volkssport Association. YESTERYEARS

40 YEARS AGO: Modesto joined a lawsuit to review parking regulations imposed by the City Council in the congested downtown area. The 50 cent to $1 surcharge for parking downtown was part of the Environmental Protection Agency’s smog-reduction proposals to encourage people to carpool and step out of the “one-car-one-person” mentality.
