Fire breaks out in vacant Modesto home

February 3, 2014

Heat-holding stucco complicated matters for firefighters battling a south Modesto blaze Monday afternoon.

According to the Modesto Regional Fire Authority, firefighters from Modesto and Ceres were dispatched to the 1000 block of Alamo Avenue at 3:22 p.m.

When they arrived three minutes later, they found a smaller house behind the main house with smoke and flames showing from the windows.

Crews searched the house and found it to be vacant. It took firefighters about 20 minutes to knock down the blaze; they were on scene for another 90 minutes after that. Damages were estimated at $15,000. Cause of the fire is under investigation.
