Calaveras County sheriff’s deputies arrested a Burson man on suspicion of trying to use Facebook to arrange to meet a 10-year-old girl for sex. Dylan Ray Mills, 19, was booked into Calaveras County Jail after deputies picked him up at the coffee shop where authorities say he thought he was meeting the victim.
According to a news release, deputies on Sunday got a report of a man using the social media network to proposition the girl. Authorities say Mills asked the girl to meet him for sexual intercourse and that he apparently knew the girl was 10 years old.
Deputies masqueraded as the victim and communicated with Mills, according to the news release. During the interaction, Mills made sexually explicit statements, authorities said. He arranged to meet her at a Starbucks in Valley Springs.
At 10 p.m., as deputies were watching the Starbucks, authorities say they learned that Mills had left a message for the victim saying he was in front of the cafe. Deputies found him sitting in his vehicle and booked him on felony charges of contacting or communicating with a minor for the purpose of engaging in certain lewd and lascivious behavior and arranging and meeting with a minor for the purpose of engaging in certain lewd and lascivious behavior.
Authorities said that when deputies interviewed Mills after his arrest, he admitted to the Facebook conversations with the victim.
