UPDATE: Authorities on Monday identified a 55-year-old Twain Harte woman who was killed Friday after the vehicle she was driving swerved into oncoming traffic on Highway 108 and collided with another vehicle. Dorothy Ruth Wright died in the accident
Wright was eastbound in a 2008 Honda near Peaceful Oak Road east of Sonora about 5:20 p.m. when, for an unknown reason, she swerved into the guardrail on the south side of the highway, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Wright, who was traveling about 50 mph, then swerved to the left over the double yellow line and into the path of a 2006 Dodge, which was traveling west at 55 mph, the CHP reported.
The driver of the Dodge hit his brakes and turned toward the right in hopes of avoiding the Honda, the CHP reported, but his vehicles front end struck the Honda. Both vehicles continued toward the north side of the highway, and the Honda overturned.
The driver of the Dodge and his passenger suffered minor injuries. Wright was not wearing a seat belt, the CHP said.
Its unknown if alcohol or drugs played a role in the accident.
