See Turlock third-graders sing video-contest song

Bee Staff ReportsJanuary 29, 2014

Turlock third-graders will be televised tapping cups and singing “Hug a Tree,” from a school video competition, Friday morning on KOVR Channel 13.

A Channel 13 news crew will be at Walnut Elementary on Friday to do a live broadcast of the school’s daily morning opening ceremony at 8:15, said Principal Mark Holmes.

Third-graders from the Renaissance Visual and Performing Arts magnet will perform their song from the Scotties Trees Rock video contest, sponsored by Irving Tissue Corp. The Walnut video is one of 12 competing, the only one from California.

Wednesday it stood in first place in national online voting, which continues through Feb. 14 at www.scottiestreesrock.com. Visitors may vote once daily. The first-place prize is $10,000 cash for the school and a Trees Rock Entertainment and Planting event. Students in the video say they want to plant trees to shade their play equipment area.
