A 22-year-old Patterson man was shot early Sunday, and neighbors called for police after hearing his moans, authorities said.

Stanislaus County sheriff’s deputies responded to a call in the 300 block of Franquette Street at 5:28 a.m.

The initial call came from people in the neighborhood reporting that they had heard a man calling for help for about two hours in the vicinity.

When deputies arrived, they found the man and he was transported to a local hospital.

Sgt. Jon McQueary said the gunshot victim was in stable condition, but it is unknown how the shot was inflicted or how many times he was shot. The investigation is ongoing. The man’s name was not reported.
