Nancy Howard: Disrupt humans, but not fairy shrimp?

January 25, 2014

How are fairy shrimp and almonds related? City officials have decided it might be a good idea to disrupt the many families and decades of heritage of the Wood Colony area to build an industrial park. On the other hand, other authorities have great consideration for the assumed fairy shrimp who live in vernal pools during the wet season at Claribel and Coffee roads. Because the shrimp might exist, the development of an intersection has been delayed.

It seems a little ridiculous to be more considerate of the possibility of fairy shrimp (“Highway traffic circle favored” Jan. 22, Page B1) than the hundreds of hardworking people in the Wood Colony area.
