Two people were displaced when a detached garage caught fire at their farmhouse just north of Enochs High School on Friday.

The fire started about 3:40 p.m. in the 3900 block of Roselle Avenue, said Alan Ernst, Modesto Regional Fire Authority battalion chief.

It took firefighters about 20 minutes to extinguish the flames, which destroyed the garage and damaged some of the house. Ernst estimated the damage at $50,000.

Five engine companies, one truck, two water tenders and two battalion chiefs from Modesto Regional and the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Protection District responded.

Roselle was closed in both directions between Sylvan Avenue and Plainview Road for about 90 minutes while firefighters were on scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
