MODESTO — A judge on Tuesday scheduled a preliminary hearing to start Sept. 19 for two men accused of murder in connection with a south Modesto shooting that left two people dead about two years ago.
The shooting occurred May 1 at a home in the 1500 block of Dezzani Lane, just south of Hatch Road. Officers found 32-year-old Ivan Ramirez dead inside a garage that had been converted into a living space, where he and others were involved in the sale of 40 pounds of marijuana, Modesto police has said.
Several hours later, authorities found the body of 31-year-old Armando Rubio, dumped at the end of a long dirt driveway on Prairie Flower Road south of Ceres and about six miles from Dezzani Lane.
Defendants Gustavo Vallejo, 28, of Washington state and Jaime Camarillo, 25, of Modesto were arrested several days later.
Investigators have said that Vallejo and Camarillo had conspired to steal the 40 pounds of marijuana from the seller.
