As children and grandchildren of settlers in Wood Colony, we are appalled that the leaders of the city of Modesto are attempting to annex it into their general plan. There is only one word that comes to mind when attempting to rationalize this behavior: greed.
We find it incomprehensible that they would want to destroy a valuable farming community steeped in family values and tradition. Look in your own backyard, Modesto, and develop property that sits vacant for large-scale development. It is sad to think that a mayor and his council are trying to take away our livelihood for their own personal gain and we in Wood Colony cannot even vote for these so-called leaders. New settlers to our area have been drawn to Wood Colony for its charm, family values, great schools and traditional way of life. We wish every child could grow up in a community such as Wood Colony. We were the lucky ones.
