Modesto therapist talks with eating-disorder experts on blog radio

— Signe Darpinian, an eating-disorder therapist in Modesto, has launched an Internet radio show to discuss obesity prevention.

She started her monthly show, called “Signe’s Weigh,” on the website BlogTalkRadio.com to interview experts in the field of eating disorders. For her show Friday, Darpinian has lined up an interview with Deborah Burgard, a leading expert who wrote the guidelines for childhood obesity prevention for the Academy of Eating Disorders. The conversation begins at noon.

Darpinian said she will talk with Burgard about mindful eating. Her guest will answer questions from listeners.

Burgard specializes in women’s issues, particularly eating, weight and sexuality concerns. She founded the BodyPositive.com website and was co-author of “Great Shape: The First Fitness Guide for Large Women.” Burgard is a founder of the “Health at Every Size” model ( http://healthateverysizeblog.org) .

Darpinian counsels clients at Meghan’s Place Eating Disorder Center in Modesto and is executive director of My Weigh, a Bay Area practice treating those with eating disorders.

The therapist said her show is a way to have an informed dialogue about obesity and healthy eating. She said she is working to set up interviews with national experts, and “so far, they aren’t saying ‘no.’
