A fire that destroyed a home in Modesto’s airport neighborhood early Tuesday morning was human caused, investigators said.
The home on Hyde Street was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived on scene at about 5 a.m., said Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Protection District Capt. Buck Condit.
Firefighters from Stanislaus Consolidated and Modesto Regional Fire Authority kept the fire contained to the residence, which was vacant and had no utilities connected.
Three engines, one truck, two battalion chiefs and an investigator – for a total of 15 personnel – responded to the fire, which caused an estimated $10,000 in damage.
Modesto Regional Fire Authority investigators determined the fire was human caused, though Condit said it is unclear if it was set intentionally or accidentally by someone trying to stay warm.
Anyone with information regarding this fire or any other fire is asked to call the Modesto Regional Fire Authority Investigation Division at (209) 491-5722.
