Mariposa man killed, two children hurt in crash

January 22, 2014

A 63-year-old Mariposa man died and two small children were hurt in a crash near Bootjack.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash happened at 5:12 p.m. Friday. The man, whose name has not been released, was driving a 2007 Toyota Corolla west on Indian Peak Road when he didn’t stop at a stop sign, the CHP says, and drove into the path of a 2010 International headed south on Highway 49, driven by Timothy McFadden, 51, of Awanhee.

The front of the International broadsided the Toyota on the driver’s side. The driver of the Toyota was declared dead at the scene. Two passengers, a 3-year-old boy and a 5-year-old boy, suffered moderate injuries. The 3-year-old was taken by helicopter to Valley Children’s Hospital in Madera. The 5-year-old was taken to John Fremont Hospital. McFadden was not hurt.

The crash remained under investigation.
