Newman man hurt in rollover accident

January 21, 2014

A 26-year-old Newman man suffered major injuries in a rollover accident Monday.

According to the California Highway Patrol, Marco Romero was driving a 2000 Pontiac Grand Am north on Eastin Road near Highway 33 at about 12:15 a.m. when the car left the road.

Romero lost control of the car, which rolled over several times before coming to rest on its side. Firefighters had to extricate Romero from the car. He was taken to Memorial Medical Center with major injuries.

Investigation into the accident continues. Authorities do not know why the car left the road; it is not clear whether drugs or alcohol were involved.
