Tiffany Seymour loves her job grooming dogs. But she had her own ideas about how a grooming business should be run, so she got together with some like-minded colleagues and an investor to open Poochie Paradise in November.
Seymour, who is manager of the business, said dogs and their owners are in for a different experience. In many grooming businesses, dogs sit in a kennel for hours before or after grooming, leading to anxiety thats evident the next time they come in, she said. At Poochie Paradise, people are invited to wait for their pets. They can watch the whole process.
You even have the opportunity to sit with your pet while its being groomed, she said. Or you can watch from the sidelines. Its a totally open facility. You can see everything.
Seymour said one dog she grooms, a miniature schnauzer, has visibly relaxed since it started coming to Poochie Paradise. Ive groomed him three times with no muzzles, no accidents, no biting, all problems the dog had previously.
She said she loves the work because she adores animals and likes to help them. Its not just about making dogs beautiful they need it, she said. Groomers express glands that need it and remove matted hair. Imagine how uncomfortable youd be if your hair was matted and tangled and tight to your head, she said.
Basic grooming packages start at about $40 for a small dog.
Its not a gold mine, she said. But its very rewarding.
Poochie Paradise is at 3219 McHenry Ave., Suite C. Its open Mondays through Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sundays by appointment. Call (209) 524-7387.

There are going to be some new spots to pick up sandwiches and auto parts (not in the same places, obviously). City of Modesto records indicate a Subway is going into a previously empty building at 315 Paradise Ave. And this week I spoke with Michael Green of Tracy, who is planning to open a Togos next month in the Crossroads Shopping Center in Riverbank.
Modestos records also show a former Hollywood Video site is being remodeled into an OReillys auto parts store. Thats at 2100 Standiford Ave. OReillys also is building a store on Geer Road in Turlock, next to Villa Napoli restaurant.
And finally, McDonalds has become the latest company to enter the smartphone application market. Customers who download the free McD app, available for Android and Apple devices, can get access to deals and notifications of coming local events. Officials said in a news release that the Sacramento, Stockton and Modesto market is just the second in California and 10th in the United States to launch the app.
