Beverly Schlegel: Keeping roses blooming

January 17, 2014

My thanks to the 12 Modesto Garden club volunteers who volunteered in the Memorial Rose Garden on Jan. 13. Volunteers spent over three hours pruning roses, raking leaves, picking up trash and hauling the debris to the curb for pickup. This big project occurs once a year. Additional care of the Memorial Rose Garden is an ongoing monthly project of Modesto Garden Club volunteers.

Volunteers who helped with the rose garden also help with other Garden Club projects. Several help with gardening at the club office bimonthly, others help with planting of pots in the downtown area, one has “adopted” six flower pots downtown, and one gardens with club volunteers at the Senior Center. I appreciate the time and commitment of these volunteers in gardening projects around our city.
