What: YOUNG READER MEDAL BOOKS PRESENTATION

What: TEA PARTY MEETING

When: Wednesday, 6:30 p.m.

Where: VFW Hall, 1405 E. Linwood Ave.

Info: Mark and Patty Meckler give a presentation on the Convention of the States, why it is a good idea and how you can help. What: PICNIC AND MOVIE AT THE LIBRARY

When: Tuesday, 6 p.m.

Where: Salida Library, 4835 Sisk Road

Info: The Salida library is hosting Family Dinner & Movie night. Children are invited to come dressed in their pajamas with their picnic blanket and dinner. Movie presentation will be “Secret of the Wings” featuring Tinker Bell. Beverages and popcorn will be provided by the Friends of the Salida Library. YESTERYEARS

100 YEARS AGO: Modesto embarks on a new industry of manufacturing irrigation pipe with the establishment of Standiford Pipe Works on South Tenth Street. The business produces both irrigation pipe and headgates, using cement as the material. The pipe, ranging from 8 to 36 inches, is designed to take the place of an open flume and carry water under pressure.
