Info: The Mother Lode Martin Luther King Jr. Committee is presenting its annual birthday celebration to honor and promote the ideas and ideals of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. Keynote speaker is Dolores Huerta, co-founder with César Chávez of the United Farm Workers, who will speak on immigration and social justice. The event will include inspirational music and thought-provoking student essays. A reception with Huerta will follow the program in the school cafeteria. The event is free and open to the public. 40 YEARS AGO: Sylvan Union School District trustees approved a five-classroom addition for Coleman F. Brown Elementary School. The 7,060-square-foot, air-conditioned and carpeted wing was expected to cost nearly $260,000 and, pending state approval, begin construction in early spring.
