Rep. Jeff Denham, R-Turlock, will hold a Twitter town hall meeting at noon Tuesday to discuss California high-speed rail with his 10th Congressional District constituents. On Wednesday, Denham will hold a hearing as chairman of the Transportation and Infrastructure’s Subcommittee on Railroads, Pipelines and Hazardous Materials on the challenges facing California’s high-speed rail project. Since voters supported Proposition 1A in 2008, proposed ride times for the California High-Speed Rail Authority’s project have slowed, promised jobs have failed to materialize and costs have skyrocketed, according to a news release from Denham’s office. In November, a Sacramento Superior Court ruling denied the authority’s request to issue more than $8 billion in California Proposition 1A state bonds to finance construction of the project. The hearing will examine the project following the ruling, which prevents the authority from generating the state funds necessary to match the $2.55 billion in federal dollars already spent on the rail system, in addition to denying its funding plan. Anyone interested in joining the Twitter town hall meeting can tweet @repjeffdenham using #CAHSR. More information on the hearing is available at
