Dorothy Walker: Together, a great event

January 10, 2014

On behalf of Turlock Together and the Turlock Salvation Army, I want to thank the many selfless volunteers and donors who so generously contributed time, money, food, drinks, linens and other materials that, once again, helped make this year’s free Christmas dinner such a special day for more than 650 less-fortunate and lonely members of our community.

A traditional hot turkey and dressing dinner with all of the trimmings capped a wonderful afternoon of compassion that included gifts, games and activities for children and keepsake family portraits with Santa Claus. And thanks also to those who helped plan, organize, set up, cook, serve and clean up during and after the event conducted at the Salvation Army’s facility on Lander Avenue.

The list of contributors is far too long to enumerate here, but Modesto Bee reporter Patty Guerra captured the devotion, caring and camaraderie that was so clearly evident.
