Peter M. Sommer: Solve Modesto problems first

January 6, 2014

It seems that Modesto Mayor Garrad Marsh has never seen a parcel of land he wasn’t interested in developing, as long as it is outside the Modesto city limits. As soon as we, the residents of Salida, thwarted his attempts to swallow up our community, Mayor Marsh shifted his attention to the Wood Colony farming area.

Why develop prime farmland?

The mayor needs to realize that communities outside the city have watched decades of overdevelopment, mismanagement, bad and costly decisions, and shortsightedness. Mayor Marsh needs to solve the problems in Modesto, develop the industrial areas and highway access within the city, develop downtown properly and set a track record for representing the citizens of Modesto in their best interests before he considers expansion.
