Larry Dovichi: Why no takers for sales job?

Why no takers for sales job?

It was disheartening reading Jeff Jardine’s column “Station hangs by a thread” (Dec. 19, Page B1), not because of the lack of listeners for KYCA but the fact that there were no takers for a commission-only sales position. There could only be a couple of reasons that there were no takers. First, the plan just would not allow a salesperson to make enough money, or it is a reflection on the availability of unemployment payments that inhibits the desire to work.

I’ve worked commission-only plans and one can earn a great living, so I am hoping the problem is management’s lack of understanding of what makes a successful commission-only sales plan. I’m not too sure of that, but one can only hope.
