WATERFORD — Stanislaus County sheriffs officials have confirmed the identity of a man who died after a car hit him early Sunday outside a large party in Waterford.
Detectives were still looking for the car and its driver but have identified a person of interest in the case.
Deputies, who responded to reports of a large fight and shots fired, arrived and spotted people running from the area. The officers were directed to Blake Barry, 20, of Oakdale, who was injured and unresponsive on the street. He was taken to an Oakdale hospital, where he died.
Detectives are asking for the publics assistance in locating 20-year-old Tony Gutierrez Macias of Waterford, who is identified as a person of interest in the case.
Attempts by The Bee to reach Barrys family have not been successful.
A second victim, a young woman, also was struck by the car and hospitalized. Her injuries were not believed to be life-threatening. Sheriffs officials have not released her name, age or city of residence.
The incident, which is being investigated as a hit-and-run homicide, occurred about 1:30 a.m. Sunday in the 500 block of E Street in Waterford.
Witnesses told investigators that they saw a dark-colored Nissan hit the two people and leave before deputies arrived. The detectives now have a more detailed description of the car, which they believe is a Nissan Altima, possibly a 2007, 2008 or 2009 model.
Neighbors reported hearing gunshots. Sgt. Keith Rakoncza of the Stanislaus County Sheriffs Department said the two people hit by the car were not shot.
No arrests had been made as of Thursday evening, and detectives did not have any further description of the driver.
