Info: The Northern San Joaquin Valley chapter of Team in Training will kick off its summer season Jan. 16. Residents from Merced to Stockton will begin training to run and/or walk one of three major events and bicyclists will be training for America’s Most Beautiful Bike Ride in Lake Tahoe. Local participants train as a group one evening per week and on Saturday mornings. They also receive a daily plan for individual workouts. Free seminars cover issues such as nutrition, injury prevention and fundraising tips. Volunteer mentors, all of whom have participated in at least one TNT event, provide guidance and support throughout the season. Three free information meetings are scheduled prior to the kickoff. They will be:

• Jan. 9 at 6 p.m. at On the Run in McHenry Village, 1700 McHenry Ave., Suite A13, Modesto.

• Jan. 13 at 6:30 p.m. at Fleet Feet, 277 Lincoln Center, Stockton.

• Jan. 14 at 6 p.m. at the Oakdale Bicycle Shop, 445 E. F St.

Info: Channel 3 (KCRA) and BloodSource ring in the new year with the annual KCRA 3 Blood Drive for Life, including marrow registry. Blood drive participants will receive a special-edition T-shirt and one ticket to the 2014 International Sportsmen’s Exposition in Sacramento on Jan. 9-12 while supplies last.
