— Modesto resident David Gilford III was shot and killed outside a nightclub in the city’s Japantown district early Sunday, police said.

Gilford, 36, was standing on the sidewalk on the 1800 block of Post Street when he was shot in the chest and face about 1:45 a.m., the San Francisco Chronicle reported.

First responders performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation, but Gilford died at San Francisco General Hospital, the report said.

The shooting happened across from the Sundance Kabuki Cinemas as patrons left a nearby nightclub, police said. Numerous people called the San Francisco Police Department, and its ShotSpotter gunshot-detection system detected gunfire, the report said.

No arrests have been made.

People with information about the shooting can call the department’s anonymous tip line at (415) 575-4444 or to send a tip by text message to TIP411 with “SFPD” in the message.
