Trial ordered in fatal shooting of 25-year-old in west Modesto

December 27, 2013

A judge has decided that a defendant must stand trial accused of murder in the shooting of a 25-year-old man seven months ago in west Modesto. Authorities say defendant Justin Anthony Banks, 29, of Modesto is responsible for the death of Sir Jay Taylor, who was shot May 30 on Maple Street. Taylor died at a Modesto hospital the following morning. Modesto police have said the two men knew each other. Banks was arrested two days after the shooting when he was spotted walking in a store parking lot along Fulkerth Road in Turlock. Banks’ preliminary hearing concluded Dec. 19 with the judge’s ruling. He remains in custody at the Stanislaus County jail. The judge has scheduled the defendant to return to court Jan. 6 for an arraignment hearing.
