Enjoy a true Winter Wonderland at Calaveras Big Trees State Park. The fourth annual celebration takes visitors on a scenic wagon ride inside the park and an Alpenhorn concert in the woods. There also will be crafts for kids, holiday music, hot cocoa, cider and cookies for all. The event is sponsored by the Calaveras Big Trees Association and raises money to pay for educational and interpretive programs throughout the year. Tickets include admission to the park

Keep the Christmas spirit going all weekend with the Sierra Railroad Christmas Train. The two-hour trip brings the family book “Morgan and the Magical Christmas Train” to life with characters, music and more. The ride includes hot cocoa, cookies and a visit from Santa. Tickets that include a hard-bound edition of the book also can be purchased. Guests are encouraged to ride in their pajamas.

The Peer Recovery Art Project will host Elegy 2013: A Tribute to Departed Musical Souls on Saturday. The event will pay tribute to some of the musical greats who have passed away this past year, including George Jones, Patti Page, Ray Price and Lou Reed. Local artists performing at the tribute event include Chris Doud, Patty Castillo Davis, Stephen Meeker, The Rob Hill Band, Victoria Boyington, Patty Hughes and Jane Dutton.

Swing to jazz and dance to funk as the Black Oak Casino brings in two live shows this weekend. Starting off Friday night is the jazz and big band sound of crooner Josh Pfeiffer. Then keep it going Saturday night with the Bay Area-based pop-funk group Clean Slate. Both shows are free and open to the public.
