MJC’s women’s basketball team places third in West Hills-Lemoore event

The Modesto Junior College women’s basketball team took third place Sunday at the inaugural West Hills-Lemoore Tournament. The Pirates defeated Rio Hondo College of Whittier, 68-59. The Pirates (6-4) have won four of their last five games. Addie Garza led MJC with 16 points. Michelle Bibbs had 14 and Brei Castilleja and Kaitlin Dadalt scored 10 apiece. Castilleja also handed out five assists and earned all-tournament honors. College of Sequoias, ranked 10th in the state, won the championship by beating West Hills-Lemoore 56-53. MJC plays host to Siskiyous on Dec. 30 at 4 p.m.
