Trial set for man accused of sexual abuse

December 20, 2013

A judge has scheduled a trial to start Sept. 22 for a 33-year-old Turlock man accused of sexually abusing a teenage girl. Robert Daniel Gomes is charged with continuous sexual abuse of a child, sodomy, oral copulation with a person younger than 14 and unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor more than three years younger. The girl – identified only as “Jane Doe” – was 13 when the abuse started, according to a criminal complaint. The misconduct occurred from December 2009 through February 2013. Turlock police investigators have said the girl eventually told her mother, and the family then notified police. The defendant remains free on bail. The judge on Tuesday scheduled Gomes to return to court June 3 for a pretrial hearing.
