William Nicholas: Naraghi Lake neighborhood will get more traffic

December 20, 2013

Having attended the planning commission meetings and clearly stating my opposition to the proposed shopping center development at Sylvan and Oakdale roads for a number of reasons, I feel it my duty as a Naraghi Lake neighborhood homeowner to speak on this issue. I can only speak for myself, but having talked with several of my immediate neighbors on Lakens Harbor, Canyon Lake, Pleasant Bay and Northcrest I feel it is not the shopping center itself that we are opposed to. It is the possibility of using Hashem Drive for the shopping center’s entrances and exits.

To listen to the developers and their attorney and hear them say this proposed development would be good for our neighborhood is just plain ridiculous.

We on Lakens Harbor and Canyon Lake already have more than our share of traffic. Cars from the west use Essex Lane and then take Lakens Harbor to Canyon Lake as their shortcut to Hashem Drive. Putting an entrance on Hashem into a shopping center would certainly make the people west of me happy. But not me or my immediate neighbors. I don’t expect everyone to see my point, but it needed to be said.
