Regarding Reza Aslans commentary, What is the real face of Pope Francis? Right would dislike Jesus, too (Issues & Ideas, Dec. 8): He clearly has had seminary training of a Christian sort; however, his supposed proof-texting of Jesus political stance is, pun intended, only half-right. His grave theological error is in equating the kingdom of God with the world, perhaps betraying a lack of belief in Jesus as a supernatural man-God, a major error of the theological left.
Jesus is referring not only to a renewed earth, but also to a heavenly and spiritual kingdom that began with his birth, life, death, resurrection and ascension and which will be completed, if you will, when he comes again to judge the living and the dead resurrecting those who believe in him as God and who have confessed him before men.
Politically, in American terms, Jesus would not favor either Republican (called out by Aslan) or Democrat. His only allegiance demanded is to him first in all things, an impossible task for us sinners, which is why we need him ever the more!
One more note: in the Bible, it is not those with money who are being rebuked, it is those who love money (1 Timothy 6:6-12).
