Kathleen West: God was with Newtown victims

December 13, 2013

Regarding “Don’t Blame Newtown on God” (Letters, Dec. 6): The writer doesn’t seem to grasp the theological principle of the omnipresence of God. God is everywhere. God does not back off because of any human attitude.

Psalm 139:7-8 says “Where can I go from your spirit? Or where can I flee from your presence? If I ascend to heaven, you are there; if I make my bed in Sheol, you are there.”

God was absolutely present in Newtown during the shooting of the innocents, as God is everywhere in the world where there is pain and evil – God is weeping, sharing every human pain and anguish. Picture Christ on the cross, suffering. God is with us no matter what.
