RIVERBANK — Riverbank Unified School District trustee Steve Walker will resign from the school board effective Dec. 31, Superintendent Daryl Camp announced Thursday evening.
Walker was elected in 2011. Board members will have to decide if they wish to appoint a replacement until the next election or pay for a special election to fill his seat.
Walker frequently voiced frustration with spending decisions made by the five-member board.
With one board member absent, he and trustee John Mitchell halted a required budget update in March, requiring a Saturday meeting to pass it in time to avert a district shutdown.
Walker and Mitchell also drew fire from community members for temporarily blocking the hiring of an assistant football coach, the son of a board member who voted against trustee health benefits.
