MODESTO — The Marines descended Thursday upon the Midas shop on McHenry Avenue in Modesto to pick up toys for underprivileged children.
Midas store owner Gary Moya and Marine Pvt. Jake Beermann were aided by Pvt. Jeff Evans of Ripon as they loaded up more than 1,900 toys four large boxes and three big garbage bags full from the store. According to Moya, all but about 10 of the toys were from a donor who did not leave his or her name but came in with a collection of unopened car toys, saying the donors father recently had died.
