Toy drive set for Shriners patients

December 11, 2013

A toy drive to benefit patients of Shriners Children’s Hospital in Sacramento will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Big Lots store at 3900 Sisk Road, Modesto. Donors are asked to give new, unwrapped toys. “The only thing that the Shriners Hospital asks is that no toy guns (anything associated with combat) or balloons be donated,” said organizer Tom Hoisington of Delhi, a member of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary. Hoisington said he set up a Fill the Boat Toy drive in Orlando, to help children of low-income veterans’ families, when he lived there. New to this area, he’s set up Sunday’s collection and hopes it grows as the Orlando one has over the past few years.
