Violence prevention seminar planned

December 11, 2013

The First CME Church of Modesto is holding a violence prevention banquet Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m. at the church, 208 Pine St. Wanda Johnson-Moore, the mother of Oscar Grant, will be the keynote speaker. Grant was shot and killed by a BART officer in 2009, in an incident that sparked protests and was made into a movie, “Fruitvale Station,” released earlier this year. The event will pay tribute to west Modesto families whose members have been the victims of violent crime. Donations of $25 per person or $50 for VIP seating are being requested. For more information or to receive tickets or make a donation, call Debra Prescott at (209) 303-0030 or pastor Victor Travis at (510) 677-1363.

Modesto Bee is pleased to provide this opportunity to share information, experiences and observations about what's in the news. Some of the comments may be reprinted elsewhere in the site or in the newspaper. We encourage lively, open debate on the issues of the day, and ask that you refrain from profanity, hate speech, personal comments and remarks that are off point. Thank you for taking the time to offer your thoughts.
