Robbery reported at Atwater pet store

Atwater police are looking for a man they say robbed a pet store Wednesday evening.

Officers said the robber entered Armstrong’s Pet World on 1814 Bellevue Road about 6:30 p.m. and handed an employee a handwritten note demanding money.

It was not clear what the note said or how much money was stolen, said Lt. Sam Joseph. The man fled on foot after taking the cash and the employee activated the store’s alarm system.

No weapons were involved and no injuries were reported, Joseph said. The man was described as a white male with blue eyes. He was wearing a black jacket and a black beanie.

A shaken-up employee at the pet store confirmed the robbery Wednesday, but declined further comment. “I don’t want to comment right now, because it literally just happened,” she said.

The incident marks the second Atwater business to be robbed using a handwritten note within two weeks. On Dec. 3, a man took off with about $300 from a Subway sandwich shop at 2810 Shaffer Road after handing an employee a note demanding money.

The man was described as a white male in his 40s, about 6 feet tall and weighing about 230 pounds. He was wearing a black leather jacket and blue jeans.

Anyone with information about the robberies is asked to contact the Atwater Police Department at (209) 357-6396. Tips are kept confidential and callers can remain anonymous.
