Modesto Library launches Read to a Reindeer program

local@modbee.comDecember 3, 2013

— Therapy dogs are back at the Stanislaus County Library’s Modesto branch and dressed in costume for the holidays.

Read to a Reindeer is a free program for independent readers ages 4 to 12. The program will run Dec. 9-12 at the library, 1500 I St.

The dogs will be paired with independent readers for 15-minute sessions, in which a child has the opportunity to read a book to a dog.

The dog patiently listens to the child read, which helps the child build confidence in his or her reading ability and communication skills, according to a news release from the library.

Registration began Monday and availability is limited, so parents interested in signing up children should move quickly.

For available times and more information about the program, call the library children’s department at (209) 558-7810.
