Rick Redner: Modesto Bee parrots Democrats’ talking points

December 2, 2013

Two headlines from the Modesto Bee on Nov. 23 make me wonder whether The Bee is committed to providing us with White House talking points rather than the news.

Headline No. 1: “Despite end of filibuster, tactics for obstruction still remain” (Page A4). The article explains how Republicans are obstructionists. The real story is 225 years of congressional checks and balances were changed by politicians who argued passionately against this change when they were in the minority during the Bush years. These hypocrites include then-Sens. Barack Obama and Joe Biden and Sen. Harry Reid. Apparently, their political convictions change with the wind.

Headline No. 2: “Health care sign-ups see November surge” (Page A5): Another case of The Bee printing Democratic talking points rather than actual news. If The Bee were interested in presenting the facts, the headline would read: More people have lost their insurance since the implementation of Obamacare than have signed up on the exchanges.

I hope The Bee returns to reporting the news accurately rather than becoming another arm of the Democratic Party. Without a free press that actively and accurately confronts our government and its leaders, our freedom is in jeopardy.
