Fire crews in Modesto managed to contain a shed fire and keep it from spreading to a nearby house and fence early Friday, authorities said.
According to reports, firefighters were dispatched to the 2800 block of Hobart Court at 1:21 a.m. The first fire engine arrived within three minutes to find a 12-foot by 12-foot paneled shed on fire, Modesto Regional Fire Authority Battalion Chief Randy Anderson said in a news release. The neighborhood is west of the Modesto Junior College west campus.
The shed, located behind a house on the property, was used to store patio furniture, tools, chlorine and muriatic acid, Anderson said. Crews managed to knock down the fire in 15 minutes, and contain the chemicals. Firefighters used 1,000 gallons of water to fight the fire.
Damages were estimated at $6,000. The cause is under investigation, but Anderson said it appeared to start on the inside of the shed.
