MODESTO — Roughly 675 people had their plates filled at the Modesto Gospel Missions annual Thanksgiving Meal and Great Bundle Up event Wednesday, according to mission Executive Director Kevin Carroll.
Carroll said that 80 to 120 overnight shelter guests at the Yosemite Boulevard mission also would be served a holiday meal.
Carroll thinks most of the afternoon visitors left with something warm to wear as volunteers helped adults and children find jackets, coats, sweat shirts, shoes and more from tables at the mission.
I think we were able to take care of most people we try to accommodate everybody, he said, though its hard to ensure the sizes available will match the people in need.
We started with 1,200 gently used coats and jackets and 150 new ones that were donated, he said. Among the volunteers, Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts staffed a table providing new shoes to Bundle Up attendees.
