Arlene Kennedy: Gallo Center prices really do need revision

November 24, 2013

I recently read a letter in The Modesto Bee that voiced an opinion on the cost of a glass of wine at the Gallo Center for the Arts. At the time, I considered it gouging, given the place is named after a local winery. Last week, my son and I saw the Million Dollar Quartet. A no-name production, but it is music and artists that I remember from my era.

It was a 1 p.m. performance on a Sunday. Tickets were $39 and the theater was a third to half empty. We sat in the near the top of the balcony. The Gallo advertises that tickets start at $19, but try to find one at the time you choose to attend. Seems Gallo management needs to get a grip. This is Modesto, not San Francisco or Las Vegas or numerous other well-known theater places. I would rather travel to San Francisco and get my money’s worth.
