RIVERBANK — The Riverbank City Council could choose a new police chief at a special meeting Thursday night.
The council will consider applicants submitted by the Stanislaus County Sheriffs Department, which provides law enforcement under contract for the city.
Sgt. Erin Kiely has been interim chief since the previous chief, Lt. Bill Pooley, left in April to be undersheriff in Tuolumne County.
The council will go into closed session after convening the 6 p.m. meeting and could announce the choice the same evening.
It will meet at South City Hall, 6617 Third St.
