Ralph Saxton: City of Modesto, schools communication lacking

November 14, 2013

It seems that once again those in charge of serving the citizens of Modesto fail in their appointed rounds. Why didn’t the city of Modesto and Modesto school district grant writers make the police department, voters or advocates of Measure X aware of the shortfalls of the pending million-dollar grant for the police department?

Didn’t they read the provisions of approval? This information would have been a strong positive for a yes vote. The chief should have been given these facts in the beginning. Now, we the taxpayers may be denied the security that we would have realized had Measure X been approved.

I’m not generally a proponent of more taxes, but in this case the people of Modesto need more police, not fewer, unless of course you’re a gang member.
