SONORA — An alleged car thief in Sonora didnt get long for a joyride in a stolen BMW convertible police arrested her five minutes after the theft was reported.
According to police, a man came into the lobby of the Sonora Police Department at 9:35 a.m. Wednesday to report that his car had been stolen. The victim told an officer that he had parked his BMW convertible in the parking lot of the Rodeway Inn and left the keys in the ignition while he worked on a project at the nearby Days Inn.
About a half-hour later, he saw someone drive away in the car.
At 9:40 a.m., an officer saw the stolen car heading south on South Washington Street, where it pulled into a driveway in the 1200 block and stopped.
The officer took the driver, identified as Amy Munoz, 35, of Sonora, into custody. A search revealed she was in possession of methamphetamine, syringes and other drug paraphernalia.
Munoz was taken to the Tuolumne County Jail and booked on felony charges of auto theft, possession of stolen property and transporting a controlled substance and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.
