Nine Stanislaus County high schools will perform in Modesto Junior College’s annual High School Orchestra Day on Nov.21 from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the main auditorium on the east campus, 435 College Ave. The community is invited to attend the celebration of string playing; there is no charge for admission. Students will perform works by composers including Brahms, Grice, Holst, Newbold, Purcell, Smetana and Vivaldi. Each high school will perform a 10-minute selection of orchestra repertoire. The event will end with the Irish reel “Finnegan’s Wake,” performed by more than 200 high school string musicians.
